Free gift offers are one of the few promotions Temu keeps genuinely open to existing accounts, and they are also the most misunderstood. Here is how the mechanism works.
What a free gift code does
It does not add a specific product to your order. It unlocks a picker at checkout showing a rotating selection of eligible items, from which you choose one. Stock and selection depend on your region and on the basket you have built.
We do not currently list a standalone gift code, because the gift picker on an established account is triggered far more reliably by the basket total than by any code. The percentage codes on the code board are the ones worth pasting.
Why the picker sometimes does not appear
- The basket is below the qualifying total. Adding one inexpensive eligible item frequently unlocks it.
- The basket contains excluded categories, most often grocery items.
- The gift stock for your region is exhausted for that cycle.
- Another promotion is applied and the gift offer cannot stack with it.
Are the gifts worth having?
Sometimes. The selection skews towards small household and accessory items. The test worth applying: if the cheapest item you would add to reach the threshold costs less than the gift you can pick, the maths works. If you are adding fifteen dollars of things you do not want to unlock a three dollar gift, it does not.
Gift codes and percentage codes together
These usually cannot be combined, because only one promo code applies per order. Compare the two in the same basket: apply the percentage code and note the total, then remove it, apply the gift code, and decide which outcome you prefer. On a large basket the percentage code normally wins; on a small one the gift often does.
A note on the gifts you did not ask for
Temu also runs gift mechanics that ask you to invite friends before anything is released. Those are referral campaigns rather than coupon codes, and the number of invitations required tends to rise as you approach the reward. Treat them as marketing, not as a discount you can plan around.
